5 A Day for children

Consuming five servings of fruits and vegetables is a great nutritional goal for people of all ages. Achieving it for young children is a little different than for adolescents and adults.
Children under the age of two are transitioning from baby food to regular food and often new tastes and textures pose a challenge. Introduce new fruits and vegetables slowly, mixing favorites with new foods and trying new presentations to pique their interest.
For this age group, a quarter cup of mashed fruit or vegetable counts as one serving. For toddlers two and older, the serving size is the same but food can be cut into small pieces to allow for self-feeding.
Help kids start out on the right path for health by offering a variety of foods in serving sizes they are comfortable with.
